After many years, your Warrington, PA home is ready for a new boiler, but plenty has changed since the last time you picked one out. How do you know which boiler you need?
Check out these tips to figure out which boiler is best for you and your home.
Type of Boiler Fuels
This question may already be answered for you depending on your current system but you can choose between an oil-powered furnace or gas-powered furnace. If you’ve been thinking of making the switch to gas, this may be the time.
If you’ve made additions to your home or you’ve found that your old boiler couldn’t keep up with your heating needs, you may want to consider a bigger unit. In cold weather, you need a system that can produce 50 BTUs per square foot of your home. In a 2,000 square foot home, your boiler will need to produce 100,000 BTUs.
Efficiency of the System
The more efficient the system, the less energy used to heat your home. Any boiler with an annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) rating of 85 or more is considered a high-efficiency boiler. Carrier offers several models with ratings of 86 and higher.
Again, your current system may dictate the choice, but the venting system is also an option to consider. If you have a chimney, your boiler may naturally vent through the chimney. You also have the choice of power-vented or direct-vented which uses fans to push the exhaust out of a side wall vent or through the roof.
When you’re ready to shop for a new boiler, knowing what your options are will help you ask the right questions and make the best decision for your heating needs.
