In Southeastern Pennsylvania, we know the winters can get bitterly cold. It’s important that your home is outfitted with a heating system that is reliable and efficient, so you can live comfortably inside when the weather is brutal outside.

Whether you’re replacing a heating appliance that has stopped working or are installing one in new construction, Custom Aire is happy to help you determine which heating appliance is right for your home.

Furnace, Heat Pump or Boiler?

Installing a new heating appliance in your home is a major investment, which is why it’s important to know each of your options. The following heating systems are offered by Custom Aire to the residents of the Bensalem region.

  • Furnace

Using primarily natural gas, propane or fuel oil, furnaces are available in a variety of styles. A furnace typically pulls cold air from the home, and passes it around a heat exchanger to warm up the air, then a blower fan forces the heated air back through the ducts toward the rest of the house.

Furnaces can operate in single-stage, two-stage and modulating modes. A single-stage furnace is either on or off, which creates greater differences in temperatures and leads to more inefficiency. A two-stage furnace uses high and low settings to keep the heat from dropping too far below your minimum temperature. A modulating furnace acts like the stove in your kitchen — it constantly adjusts its flame to keep the air temperature consistent, leading to better efficiency.

  • Heat Pump

Capable of both heating and cooling, a heat pump can use the outside air (Air-source heat pumps) or the ground (geothermal or GeoExchange heat pumps) to help regulate the temperature in your home. A heat pump exchanges heat or cool temperatures between the house and outdoors using forced warm-air delivery systems.

  • Boiler

A boiler delivers heat by radiating energy right from a set of pipes and coils. The heat is generated by heated water that is transferred along the system. Once the water cools off, it returns to the boiler to be reheated using natural gas or oil.
